Biography

David Scott was born in Edinburgh and left home at the age of sixteen when he became a clerk at a customs house in London. At the age of 20, he was appointed as a clerk in the post office savings bank, and then in 1898 moved back home where he took up a job at the General Post Office in Edinburgh.

Scott had been involved in gymnastics in his hometown from an early age, and later served in various administrative positions such as secretary of the Leith Gymnasium as well as the Leigh District Junior Gymnastic Association. He later also served as secretary of the Scottish Amateur Gymnastics Association, and then as its president in the 1930s. In 1923, Scott was appointed postmaster in Dunfermline, Fife and remained there until his retirement in 1936. He later moved to Reading with his wife where he remained until his death there in 1959.
