Michaela Erler

Center forward Michaela Erler was a German handball player who was on the losing side in the third-place match at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, when Germany lost 24-20 to the Unified Team EUN. Four years later at Atlanta the team placed sixth. She won the gold medal at the 1993 World Championships and the silver medal at the Europeans the following year. She won 258 international caps and scored 690 goals.

Domestically, Erler played with GuthsMuths Berlin (until 1984), VfL Engelskirchen (1984–88), Bayer Leverkusen (1988–93), TuS Walle Bremen (1993–96), and Borussia Dortmund (1996–2003). She helped Bremen win three German national titles between 1994-96 and the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1994. She also won the German Cup in 1986 and 1988 with Engelskirchen, in 1991 with Leverkusen, and in 1994, 1995 and 1997 with Bremen. In 1995 and 1996, Erler was named German Handball Player of the Year.
