Biography

Jo Anne Quiring competed in judo at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, the first time it was a medal sport for women at the Olympics. This was unfortunate, for Quiring was among the top female judokas in the world throughout the 1980s. She won a silver medal as a half-lightweight at the 1987 Pan American Games and won bronze at that tournament in the same class in 1995. Quiring was US Champion in 1983, 1987, and 1994-95, and won the US Open in 1986, 1988, and 1993. She competed at the World Championships in 1987 and 1991, finishing fifth and seventh, respectively. Quiring won the ASKO World Tournament in 1988 and the Pacific Rim Judo Championships in 1993. In all, she won five golds and 13 medals at international tournaments.
