Biography

Romanian-born half-middleweight judoka Daniel Lascau was eliminated in the pool stage at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, when he represented Germany. He had already won three Romanian national titles and two bronze medals at the Youth European Championships before he fled to the West in 1989. His greatest moment came in 1991 when he won the World Championships.

Lascau later became a sports administrator and was vice-president of the German Judo Federation until 2004. He then moved to Sweden and became General Secretary and Sports Director at both the European and International Judo Federations, respectively. He also became president of the Romanian Judo Federation.
