German extra-lightweight judoka won two Olympic bronze medals, at the 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta Games. He added another bronze at the 1993 World Championships, but was only fifth in 1995. In 1994 and 1995 he was on the gold medal-winning squad at the Europeans.
Trautmann was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf in 1993, the highest sports award in Germany. Since 2010 he has been a 6th Dan and became assistant coach within the German Judo Federation. From 2017-21 he was chief national coach.
