Biography

Rower Bernhard Knubel won a gold medal in the coxed pairs together with Heinz Renneberg and Klaus Zerta at the 1960 Roma Olympics, also finishing as runner-up that year at the West German Championships. In 1959 Knubel came in third with Heinz Renneberg in the coxless pairs at the West German Championships. Knubel was also active as a handball player and a track & field athlete. The educated machine fitter died rather young at the age of 34 from cancer. He was the first gold medal winner from his hometown of Minden.
