Biography

Rower Gabriel Konertz was a member of the West German coxless fours at the 1976 Montréal Olympics. They finished sixth, and last, in the final. In 1977 and 1978, he won silver medals with the coxed fours at the World Championships, having been placed sixth with the coxless fours in 1975.

In 1977, Konertz won three West German national titles, with the coxed pairs, coxed fours, and coxed eights. The following year he won the coxed pairs, coxless fours and eights. In 1979 and 1980 he won the eights again, and also added another coxed pairs title in 1979.

Konertz later studied sports at Köln. In 2011 he suffered from heart diseases with a cardiac output of only 11%. Consequently, he became jobless and was unable to survive. Only thanks to the help of friends, he survived. Sadly, he died in 2017 as a result of his heart problems.
