Biography

Together with Claus Heß, Helmut Sauermilch was eliminated in the semi-finals at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics in the coxless pairs. Both came second in the German coxless pairs in 1954, and won the national titles in 1955 and 1956. Sauermilch later took the name of his wife, Sprunk, and his home club was RC Germania Düsseldorf. By profession, he was a confidential clerk at a Düsseldorf-based company processing paper, cardboards and paperboards.
