Biography

Ed Ferry joined up with Conn Findlay to form one of America’s greatest ever pair-oared boats. They won the national title in that event in 1961, 1962, and 1964, and were Pan American Games champions in 1963 (with the non-Olympian cox Charles Blitzer), in addition to winning their gold medal at Tokyo in 1964 (with cox Kent Mitchell). The threesome also finished fifth at the 1962 World Championship.

Ferry went to Stanford but was an ensign in the Navy at the time of his Olympic performance, serving two years. After graduating from Stanford, Ferry earned an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. In the 1970s he spent 2+ years traveling in Europe, India, and Africa in a Volkswagen camper. This led to him starting Tent ‘n’ Trek, a company which gave high school student a sis-week camping adventure by taking them to various countries. Ferry closed Tent ‘n’ Trek in 1986 and then began building custom homes in Marin County, California until he retired.
