Biography

Bob Morey rowed for three years in prep school at Phillips Exeter Academy, stroking the varsity eight in his senior year. He then went to Yale, graduating in 1958, again stroking the eight. Morey was a member of the Skull and Bones secret society at Yale, and during his four years at Yale, his crew never lost to Harvard. He then served in the US Navy as a navigator aboard the USS Atka icebreaker. After leaving the Navy in 1968 as a lieutenant junior grade, Morey obtained an MBA from Harvard and the went into the financial world, initially with Brown Brothers.

Morey later formed his own underwriting company, R. W. Morey, Inc, which specialized in catastrophic health-care re-insurance. Morey later settled in Tiburon, California where he and his wife ran the 600-acre Casey Flat Ranch in Capay Valley, where they initially had a Longhorn cattle farm. In 2004 Bob and Maura Morey planted vines and started a small vineyards, under the Casey Flat label. Bob Morey served on the boards of the San Francisco Opera, California Pacific Medical Center, Coventry Health Care, Marin Country Day School, Santa Catalina School, Portsmouth Abbey School, Georgetown University College of Arts and Sciences, and the California State University Maritime Academy.
