Biography

Hubert Hammerer competed in shooting at the 1960 and 1964 Olympics, winning a gold medal in free rifle at the Roma Olympics. He attempted to compete in 1948, 1952, and 1956, but was unable to, for various reasons. In 1948 he could not find a suitable weapon.

He lost a thumb in a carpentry accident in 1952, while in 1956, he was not nominated by the Austrian Shooting Federation. Hammerer won a European Championship in 1958. He retired from sport shooting in 1966. His profession was as a carpenter and he also owned a weapons shop in Egg in the Bregenzerwald. In 1974 Hammerer was awarded the Golden Merit of the Republic of Austria.
