A career military man, Edson Warner earned numerous distinctions for his shooting ability in the army and took part in his first major international tournament at the 1952 World Championships, held shortly prior to that year’s Oslo Olympics. At the Oslo Games he competed in three events, two rifle and one pistol, with his best finish being 26th in the small-bore rifle, prone, 50 metres competition. He competed at two more World Championships, in 1958 and 1966, and one more edition of the Olympics in 1960. At the latter tournament, he was 24th in the free rifle, three positions, 300 metres event and 27th in the small-bore rifle, prone, 50 metres tournament. He also competed at nine editions of Britain’s prestigious Bisley tournament and two events at the 1974 British Commonwealth Games. He was made a member of the Canada Rifle Association’s Target Rifle Hall of Fame in 2001, the Service Conditions Hall of Fame in 2011, and the Canadian Forces Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.
