Henri de Castex married in 1895 Gabrielle Gilardoni, the sister of yachtsman Henri Gilardoni. Her family owned the tile factory in Dannemarie, Haut-Rhin and Castex became managing director. He served in World War I and was awarded the Croix de Guerre. Together with his brother-in-law, he implemented the merger Gilardoni tiles of Alsace and Marne in 1919. Having no children from his marriage, he adopted his niece, Jacqueline Gilardoni.
Henri de Castex was a passionate hunter on his property in Diebolsheim, where he eventually died. Active mainly in trap shooting, he was captain of the French shooting team at the 1912 Olympic Games. In 1920, he appeared in his second Olympics. He acted as president of the French Hunting Weapons Shooting Federation.
