Biography

The winner of the British Individual Miniature Rifle Shooting Championship at Bisley in 1947, Victor Gilbert represented Great Britain in the first post-War World Championships at Stockholm that year, and won a bronze medal in the 50 and 100 metre free rifle, prone team event. An England international, Gilbert spent most of his career with the Ham and Petersham Rifle and Pistol Club in London, before joining the Twickenham Club. In 1957, Gilbert won the British Small-bore Rifle Association Championship at Bisley, after a tie shoot-off with D. R. V. Parrish, after both men scored 598 out of 600. Gilbert’s greatest honour was in winning the 1958 Grand Aggregate Gold Cross at Bisley. He also won the Donaldson and Northland prizes at Bisley.
