German sports shooter Erich Hotopf participated in the small-bore rifle event over 50 metres at the 1936 Berlin Olympics and finished 23rd. At the 1950 World Championships held in Olso he won a bronze medal as member of the German free rifle prone team. By profession, Hotopf was a policeman. In 1964 he won his only German national title.
