Biography

Along with his brothers Georg and Erik, Patrik de Laval competed in the 1912 modern pentathlon, finishing 14th. In shooting he took part in the individual event with the duelling pistol. Their father was a Doctor of Philosophy and teacher.

In 1905 he joined the Svea life guard as a volunteer and graduated from the Karlberg Military Academy in 1907. He then entered the regiment as a sub-lieutenant and was promoted to lieutenant in 1909. In 1918 he was transferred to reserve status and in 1921 promoted to captain. In 1908 he had been appointed to French Officier d’Académie, and in 1936 he was made a Knight of the Order of the Sword, but resigned just months later.

Patrik de Laval married in 1916 Mary Fleetwood, the sister of his brother Georg’s wife. The couple remained childless. After the military he spent his life as a landowner on Tyresö farm near Stockholm. In 1926 he travelled around the world.
