Biography

Diver Günther Mund was the brother of Lilo and the two were children of Arthur Mund and Margret Borgs who both participated in the 1928 Olympics, after which they married and emigrated during World War II to Chile. The family often returned to Germany as Günther was a member of two swimming clubs at Cologne and Düsseldorf. Günther became German springboard champion in 1955. He twice participated in the Olympic Games, in 1948 and 1956, with his best result being seventh in the springboard event at Melbourne.

Mund was a trained sports teacher and completed postgraduate studies in Germany (Cologne). He specialized in the construction and operation of saunas, steam baths and swimming pools. In Santiago de Chile, Mund ran a spa consisting of a swimming pool, sports and fitness studio as well as a wellness and beauty center. He tragically died in an aviation crash in his own light aircraft in Chile in 2011.
