Mariette Protin was a French competitive swimmer who was active during the 1920s. Protin was born in Paris but moved to Nice when she was young where she learned to swim. In 1920 she finished second in both the 100 and 400 metres freestyle events at the Côte d’Azur championships, before winning the 60 and 200 metres freestyle races the following July. A week later she then came third in the 100 metres freestyle at the French championships. In 1922 she was part of the French team that won silver in the 200 metres medley relay at the Women’s Olympics in Monaco.
Protin continued to achieve good results in the run-up to the 1924 Paris Olympics and was selected to swim in three races. She reached the semi-finals in both the 100 and 400 metres freestyle, and finished fifth in the 4 × 100 metres freestyle relay. By the end of the year she held all the national freestyle records from the 100 to the 500 metres, becoming the French champion in the 100 metres in 1926.
