Sidney Parvin

Sidney Parvin started as a freestyle swimmer, concentrating on the shorter distances of 60, 90 and 100 yards, but, at the 1908 London Olympics, was selected for the 100 metres backstroke, having put in good performances in the two Olympic trials at Kentish Town and the White City. Parvin had a more successful career as a water polo player, however, and won representative honours with London, Surrey and The South of England. He also played for Middlesex, and was on their team beaten in the County Championship final in 1905 and 1908, by Cheshire and Lancashire respectively. After a move to the Poly, however, he was on the Middlesex team that beat Cheshire 5-4 in the County final in 1911. Parvin served on the committee of Middlesex County Water Polo Association.
