After a successful schoolboy and junior career, the senior competitive swimming career of breaststroke swimmer Stuart Roberts centred around the 1968 season. He won the ASA 110 and 220 yards titles, beating the defending champion and British record holder Roger Roberts in the shorter distance.
Both men went to the Mexico Olympics, but neither won a medal, nor qualified for the individual breaststroke finals. Had he reached the 200 final, Stuart would have swum on his 17th birthday. When he was 19, Roberts emigrated to Australia initially living in Cairns before relocating to Sydney.
