Diver Karin Guthke reached the final in the springboard event at the 1976 Montréal Olympics, but finished only fifth. In the platform event she missed the final. Four years later at Moskva she then earned the bronze medal on springboard. The same year she won her only East German national title, also on the springboard. At the 1974 Europeans she came in fifth on platform, while at the 1975 Worlds she finished seventh and in 1978 she placed fourth on springboard. Guthke later became a diving coach, but after German re-unification she worked in a social institution.
