Biography

Swimmer Lutz Unger had his first international appearance at the 1970 Barcelona Europeans. He won the gold medal with the East German medley relay and two bronze medals with both freestyle relays. At the 1972 München Olympics he also was a member of all three relays. With the medley relay he won the silver medal, and with the 4x100 freestyle relay the bronze medal, finishing sixth in the longer free relay. In 1970, Unger won two East German titles in the 200 and 400 m freestyle.

Unger later became a graduated sports teacher and worked as a car dealer after re-unification. Finally, he was employed by a Berlin bank.
