Biography

Gerd Völker finished ninth on platform at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. He competed for the mixed German team. After his retirement Völker worked teaching sports and geography. He was also a swimming coach at his home club TSC Berlin in East Germany until 1984, when he became head coach until reunification with the former GDR.

After a brief engagement as a construction foreman he became a swimming coach again in 2006 with the newly founded Berliner Turn und Sportclub (BTSC). He founded the Berliner Springergala (Berlin Diving Gala) in the 1990s. The German Swimming Association employed Völker as a national coach and head of the diving section. Beginning in 2013 he also worked with the television event Pool Champions – Promis unter Wasser (Pool Champions – VIPs under Water) by German TV channel RTL.
