Biography

German swimmer Werner Plath finished fifth with the 4x200m relay team at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. He also won the European 4x200m freestyle relay title in 1938, and in the individual 400m freestyle finished second. He was the German 100m freestyle champion in 1941, the 200m champion in 1936-38 and 1940-41, the 400m champion in 1937 and 1940-41, and finally he won the 1,500m title in 1940 and 1941. Plath was executed by the SS in the final months of World War II in 1945 for reasons unknown.
