Biography

A freestyle swimmer and water polo player for Legia Warszawa, Jan Lutomski won three Polish titles in the 200 m freestyle (1959, 1961-62). That event was not on the Olympic programme, so Lutomski competed in the 400 m in Rome 1960. Lutomski had won the Polish title earlier in the year, but was eliminated in the qualifiers. With the Polish 4 x 200 m relay team, he narrowly missed the final, placing 9th.
