Biography

Fred Dewen was a well respected boxing referee and was involved in contests in all weight divisions at the 1924 Olympics, as either a judge or referee. Although born in London, he spent most of his life in East Yorkshire where he was a superintendent in the Hull City Police. Dewen was heavily involved in both the Northern Counties and Police Boxing Associations. He received the Police Medal in the 1927 New Year’s Honours list.
