Esko Kähkönen was a Finnish sports journalist and commentator who worked for regional broadcasters across Lapland. After serving as a solider Kähkönen became a physical education instructor and later a gymnastics teacher. With his background in sport he became an assistant editor for the Lapin Kansa newspaper, which ultimately led to him becoming a longtime radio host.
In addition to being a broadcaster and journalist Kähkönen also worked as coach at his local ski jumping club, Ounasvaaran Hiihtoseura. The club had an amazing record during the 1970s, with athletes winning multiple medals at the Finnish championships. Through his work in coaching the sport, Kähkönen was one of the judges for the Nordic combined and large hill events at the 1972 Sapporo Olympics.
