Hugh Murray

After the conclusion of the quarter-final bouts in the 1948 boxing competition, Hugh Murray was the only Briton amongst the eight referees chosen by the International Amateur Boxing Association (IABA) to officiate in the semi-final and medal bouts.

Murray was a member of the Glasgow Meat Trades’ Boxing Club and was a former president of the West Scotland ABA, and former treasurer of the Scottish Amateur Boxing Association. He was also the first Scot to be recognised as an international referee by the IABA. In addition to being a referee Murray had the honour of being the Scottish team manager at the 1954 ABA Championships in London.
