Biography

In the late 1880s, Harry Faith was a cyclist with the London Bicycle Club, and also a keen boxer with the Stock Exchange Boxing Club, before becoming a prominent swimmer with the Otter SC. He accompanied Monty Holbein in some of his cross-channel attempts at the early part of the 20th century. Faith was later involved in figure skating and was treasurer of the Figure Skating Club. He also held the post of honorary secretary of both the SwedIsh Cup and ice hockey sub-committee of the National Skating Association. As well as being a judge at the 1908 London Olympics, he officiated at the 1910 World Figure Skating Championships in Davos, and also at many British Championships. Faith was a stock jobber on the London Stock Exchange from 1896, and had his own company, Messrs H. D. Faith & Sons. Shortly before his death, he patented a device he had invented for rescuing exhausted swimmers.
