Biography

A lifetime of swimming for Hans Blumer reached its pinnacle when he was selected to represented Switzerland in the 100 metres backstroke event at the 1948 London Olympics, where he was eliminated in round one in a heat won by upcoming bronze medalist Georges Vallerey, Jr. of France. This was his only major international appearance, but he remained active in the sport for remainder of his life, often working as a coach. By career he was a school teacher and taught secondary school in Meilen and, from 1969 through 1993, in Männedorf.
