Biography

Aleksandr Manachinsky was a butterfly swimmer who competed at both distances at the 1976 Montréal Olympics, also swimming the medley relay. Manachinsky was Soviet Champion over 100 metres in 1977 and 200 metres in 1976. At the 1979 Spartakiad he was third in the 100 fly and second in the medley relay with the Ukrainian SSR team. After retiring from competition, Manachinsky worked as a trainer with the national teams of the USSR and Ukraine, and later taught at the Kharkov School of Physical Education, and at the Aquarena Pool.
