Biography

Annette Salmeen swam in high school at Huron High School at Ann Arbor, Michigan, winning four state championships, three in the 500 yard freestyle. She swam in college at UCLA, co-captaining the team and winning All-American honors four times, winning one NCAA championship in the 200 metre butterfly. Salmeen also won a bronze medal in the 200 fly at the 1995 Universiade. After graduating from UCLA in 1997 with a chemistry degree, Salmeen earned a Rhodes Scholarship, studying biochemistry at Oxford. There she also swam for the Oxford University Swim Club, setting several club records in both long- and short-course events. After earning a doctorate in biochemistry at Oxford in 2001, she became a post-doc fellow at Stanford. In 2005, Salmeen became the secretary of the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).
