Biography

Mike Bruner won the NCAA 1,500m freestyle in 1975. He proved his versatility at the 1974 AAUs by winning the indoor 1,650y freestyle and the outdoor 200m fly. Bruner continued to swim after 1976 and would have been one of the favorites at Moscow had the US competed. One of his more amazing accomplishments came in a fund-raising drive for his club, DeAnza of Cupertino, California. He swam 10,000m in 1 hour, 39:18.59 (short-course), which netted over $43,000 for the club.
