Biography

Hans Dersch swam for the University of Texas, where he specialized in the breaststroke. At the 1991 Pan American Games Dersch won gold medals in the 100 breast and the 4x100 medley relay. He swam the same two events at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, winning a gold in the medley relay, although he swam only in the heats.

After the Olympics he became a swim coach, serving as an assistant at Texas A&M Univerity. He also started a large private recreational park in Texas, and founded several non-profit organizations. Dersch also ran, unsuccessfully, for Texas State Representative. He later became head swim coach at St. Michael’s Academy, a Catholic school in Austin, Texas.
