Biography

Kurt Grote was a breaststroker who won a gold medal in the medley relay at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Grote swam for Stanford and the Santa Clara Swim Club. He swam at the 1998 World Championships, winning the 200 metre breaststroke, and getting a bronze medal in the 100 breast and a silver in the medley relay. His greatest international meet was the 1997 Pan Pacific Championships, when he won the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, adding a third gold in the medley relay. Grote also won a bronze medal in the 100 breast at the 1995 Pan Pacs.

After college Grote returned to Stanford for medical school. He did not practice medicine, however, but joined McKinsey & Company’s healthcare payor and provider practice, working with physicians to improve clinical operations.
