Biography

Apart from being on the second-placed relay team, David Hammond of the Chicago AA also competed in the 100y free and the 100y backstroke, but was not a threat to the medalists in either event. He also won a silver medal with the Chicago AA water polo team. Hammond was entered in the 50 yard freestyle but did not start. At St. Louis in 1904, he also competed in the 220 yard handicap event, finishing third, which is considered a non-Olympic, or demonstration, event.
