Biography

Bernard Rajzman, better known by his Brazilian shirt-name of Bernard, was a top Brazilian volleyballer, playing in the 1976, 1980, and 1984 Olympics, and winning a silver medal in 1984. He also won seven South American Championships with the Brazilian team, and won four medals at the Pan American Games – gold in 1983, silver in 1975 and 1979, and bronze in 1987. Bernard was also twice a silver medalist at the beach volleyball World Championships, in 1986-87. He was enshrined in the Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2005, and in 2003 received the Olympic Order in Silver.

Rajzman studied business in school but later became a Brazilian state congressman. He worked in various positions within the Brazilian Sports Ministry starting in 1991. Bernard became a member of the Brazilian Olympic Committee in 1995. He was a member of the executive board of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Organizing Committte. In 2013 he was co-opted onto the IOC. Bernard is the father of professional surfer Phil Rajzman.
