Biography

John Alstrom played for the Fresno Volleyball Club in 1967 leading them to the US Volleyball National Championship. In 1968 Alstrom won an AAU title with the Outrigger Canoe Club. In 1969 he won the US Volleyball National Championship with the Los Angeles YMCA, while in 1970 he was second with the Balboa Bay Club. Alstrom was a gold medalist at the 1967 Pan American Games prior to playing for the US at the 1968 Olympics. He played in the professional International Volleyball Association, with the Los Angeles Stars, helping them win the league’s first title. He later played in masters volleyball leagues. Alstrom was honored by USA Volleyball with its All-Time Great Player Award. He is a member of the Fresno High School Wall of Champions, the Central Valley YMCA Hall of Fame, the BYU Volleyball Hall of Fame, and the Fresno Athletic Hall of Fame.
