Miodrag Mitić

Miodrag Mitić was a Serbian volleyball player, coach and doctor. He began playing volleyball in 1972 for VGSK in the small Serbian town of Veliko Gradište. The team became the national champions of Yugoslavia in 1980. At an international level, Mitić won a bronze medal with the Yugoslav team at the 1979 European Volleyball Championship in France and a gold medal at the 1979 Mediterranean Games in Split. The following year, Mitić was part of Yugoslavia’s squad at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, with the team finishing in sixth place.

Mitić coached the VGSK team from 1996 to 2005. From 2010 to 2017, he also supervised matches for the European Volleyball Confederation.

Mitić graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade as a physiatrist, and became the director of the local health centre. At the 2012 London Olympics, Mitić was the team physician of the Serbian women’s team. His son, Mihajlo Mitić also played volleyball for Serbia at the London Olympics.
