Biography
Joachim Rademacher was a member of the team that won the first gold medal by a German water polo team at the Amsterdam Olympics. In Los Angeles the team came in second and won the silver medal behind Hungary. He took silver at the European Championships in 1931 in Paris. Rademacher also excelled as a freestyle and breaststroke swimmer, winning European Championships in 1926-27 in the 4x200 free relay and placing 3rd in the 1926-27 1500 freestyle. Domestically he won four German titles in the now-defunct breaststroke relays, also winning the 1500 freestyle in 1927, open-water swimming in 1931, and water polo titles in 1925-26, 1928-1931, 1933.
Rademacher later owned a kiosk within the Westfalenhalle of Dortmund. He was the brother of Erich Rademacher and the uncle of Ulrich Rademacher who won 11 German Championships in swimming between 1954 and 1958 and set 37 German records.
