Biography

Orlando Garrido’s first major international tournament was the 1947 World Championships, where he finished just off the podium in fourth in the middleweight division. His next stop was the 1948 London Olympics, where he placed seventh among 24 competitors. After switching to the light-heavyweight category, he had his greatest international success at the 1951 Pan American Games when he took bronze behind Stan Stanczyk of the United States and Argentina’s Osvaldo Forte. At the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, however, he failed to complete the snatch and thus did not place in the tournament. He retired shortly thereafter and later moved to the United States, eventually settling in Florida.
