Biography

Point guard Armin Andres was on the German basketball squad that finished seventh at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics after winning the classification match versus Puerto Rico, 96-86. In total, he earned 146 international caps. His brother Thomas also was a basketball professional.

Domestically, Andres played with SB DJK Rosenheim (until 1981), SSV Hagen (1981-84), 1. FC/TTL Bamberg (1984-91), MTV 1846 Gießen (1991-94, 1995), and ALBA Berlin (1994). After his active career he turned to coaching and worked with MTV 1846 Gießen (1994-96), the German Basketball Federation as an assistant coach (1997-2003), TSK Bamberg (1999-2001), Brandt Hagen (2003), Gießen 46ers (2004), and finally RheinEnergie Köln (2004-05).

Andres was also dedicated to local politics and was elected to the city council of his hometown Bamberg (2008-14) as a member of the left-winged party SPD. In 2014, he was elected vice-president of the German Basketball Federation. He owned several gastronomic companies in Bamberg.
