Louis François came from a miners’ family that moved to Paris, where they became cement workers. François was a seven-times French champion in Greco-Roman wrestling (1928, 1930-33, 1935 and 1937). François was employed by the Paris police, but remained devoted to wrestling as a coach and referee.
