Biography

Constantin Alexandru started wrestling in 1965. He was a five-time European Champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, winning titles in 1974-75 and 1977-79. He was also World Champion in 1978-79. Alexandru placed second at the 1974 Worlds and the 1976 Europeans. He wrestled almost exclusively in the 48 kg class (light-flyweight), although in 1981-83, at the end of his career, he moved up to 52 kg (flyweight) but never made an international podium at that weight. Alexandru was a national champion as a light-flyweight in 1973-76, 1978-80 and as a flyweight in 1981-83. He later worked as a wrestling coach and international referee, coaching Steaua Bucharest and the Romanian, Venezuelan and Guatemalan national teams.
