Of Czech descent, Estanislao Kocourek began his architecture career at his father’s company, and over the next several decades became prominent in his career, culminating in receiving the Konex Award in 1988 for his contributions to construction. He also took up athletics in his youth and was selected to represent Argentina at the inaugural Pan American Games in 1951. There, he won a silver medal in the 110 metres hurdles, behind American Dick Attlesey. After coming in second again at the 1952 South American Championships, this time behind Chile’s Jörn Gevert, he represented his country in that event at that year’s Helsinki Olympics, where he was eliminated in round one. He was also an alternate with the 4x100 metres relay, but did not start. He won the hurdles at the unofficial South American Championships in 1953, and captured his final major international medal in that event, silver behind Ijoel da Silva of Brazil, at the 1956 edition.
Personal Best: 110H – 14.2 (1951).
