Biography

From the mid-1920s to the mid-1930s Leo Jørgensen was the best sprinter in Denmark, winning no fewer than 16 national titles. Jørgensen did the remarkable feat of doing the 100 and 200 metres double at the Danish championships on eight occasions from 1926 to 1934, only missing out at the 1928 championships. He set a Danish record in the 100 metres in 1928 when he ran 10.7 seconds, with the record standing until it was broken by Holger Hansen in 1938. Jørgensen was selected to run in the 100 and 200 metres at the 1924 Paris Olympics but did not start in either race. Four years later he ran in the 100 metres at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics but was eliminated in his heat.

Personal Best: 100 – 10.7 (1928).
