Spanish track and field athlete Joaquín Miquel spent his entire career with Reial Club Deportiu Espanyol in Barcelona. In 1922 Miquel won the Catalan Cross Country Championship and finished third in the Spanish Championship. In 1924 he set Spanish and Catalan records in 1,500 metres, 3,000 metres, and 5,000 metres. The following year he won his second Catalan cross-country title before winning a spree of Spanish titles with victories in the 800 metres (1925–28), 1,500 metres (1926–27), and the 400 metres (1928).
Miquel ran in the 5,000 metres and the 3,000 metres team race at the 1924 Paris Olympics but did not advance from the heats in either. He was also scheduled to run in the 1,500 metres in Paris but did not start the race. Four years later he ran in the 400 and 800 metres at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. Once again he was also scheduled to run in the 1,500 metres but did not take the start line. Miquel was only 26 when he gave up on athletics despite setting all the Spanish and Catalan records in distances from 400 metres to 5,000 metres.
Personal Bests: 400 – 49.8 (1928); 800 – 1:58.4 (1928); 3000 – unknown; 5000 – 15:41.6 (1924).
