Biography

Basketball player Michael Pappert represented West Germany at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, finishing eighth. In total, he won 169 international caps. Domestically, he played with DJK Frankenberg Aachen (1970-76), SSV Hagen (1976-77), BSC Saturn Köln (1979-85), and 1. TuS Bayer 04 Leverkusen (1985-89). In 1981 and 1982 he won the national title with Köln, and the German cup in 1980-81, and 1983. In 1986 and 1987 he won further national titles with Leverkusen, and the German cup again, in 1986.

Pappert had a spell in the US, playing with the University of Redlands 1977-79. He studied sports science at the Deutsche Sporthochschule in Köln, and became a sports teacher. For a short while he also worked as a basketball coach in Oldenburg.
