Biography

Heather Armitage had the following podium finishes at major championships: 2nd in the 1956 Olympics 4×100 metres Relay, 3rd in the 1952 Olympics 4×100 metres Relay; 1st in the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games 4×110 yards Relay (with Dorothy Hyman, June Paul, and Madeleine Weston), 2nd in the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games 100 yards, 2nd in the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games 4×110 yards Relay (with Anne Pashley and the non-Olympians Shirley Burgess and Shirley Hampton), 3rd in the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games 220 yards. Armitage also finished fifth in the 220 yards and sixth in the 100 yards at the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games. In the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games 80 metres hurdles she finished sixth. In the British Empire and Commonwealth Games she competed as Heather Armitage (1954) and as Heather Young (1958) for England.

Personal Bests: 100 – 11.6 (1956); 200 – 23.79y (1958).
