Biography

Alf Meakin had the following podium finishes at major championships: 1st in the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games 4×110 yards (with David Jones, Peter Radford, and the non-Olympian Len Carter). In the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games Meakin was also eliminated in the quarter-finals of the 100 yards and in the heats of the 220 yards. In the British Empire and Commonwealth Games he competed for England.

After his athletics career, Meakin played Rugby League for Leeds, and Blackpool Borough. In 2013 he became the oldest person in Britain to undergo a bone-marrow transplant.

Personal Best: 100 – 10.4 (1963).
